Government of Malaysia has announced that a nationwide operation would be launched from midnight of January 20-21, 2014 to identify arrest and deport illegal immigrants living in Malaysia. This enforcement operation would involve officials from immigration and police department as well as volunteer security force (RELA). Government of Malaysia has urged the immigrants to register voluntarily before January 20, 2014 in order to avoid detention and prosecution. Those who register would be allowed to return after depositing compounded fines. Government of Malaysia has further urged diplomatic Missions to inform undocumented nationals to return voluntarily to respective countries. For this purpose, the nationals are required to present return tickets and valid travel documents. Nationals returning voluntarily will not be prosecuted but will have to pay compounded fine. There will be no granting of Amnesty. |
